BEAP Grant – Frequently Asked Questions

General Program Information

How much funding is available?
For the 2025–2026 BEAP grant cycle, the EDA has approximately $100,000 available for the grant program. Awards can be made for up to 50% of equipment costs, capped at $20,000. Note that funding is limited and competitive.
Can I submit more than one application?
No. Multiple applications are not allowed. Each business may submit only one application per grant cycle, so please choose the proposal that best fits your business needs.
Can I apply this year if I received a grant last year?
Businesses that were awarded funding last year are not eligible to apply this year. Only businesses that did not receive a grant in the previous cycle may submit an application.

Application Process

How are the grant applications scored?
Applications are evaluated based on the official BEAP Grant Scoring Chart. However, grants are awarded at the sole discretion of the Roanoke County Economic Development Authority. All applications must include:
  • A completed Excel budget form (download template)
  • A recent cost estimate (dated within the past 12 months) showing projected pricing for eligible equipment purchases
Applications without both of these required documents will not be scored.
What is considered a cost estimate?
A cost estimate must be dated within the past 12 months and clearly reflect expected pricing for the equipment you plan to purchase. Acceptable forms include:
  • Official vendor quotes or written estimates
  • Invoices for similar or identical items
  • Screenshots from vendor websites showing product pricing
  • Estimates on company letterhead
All estimates must be legible and clearly associated with the items described in your application.

Timeline & Spending Requirements

When will recipients be notified?
Grant recipients will be notified of awards in the fall of 2025.
How long do I have to spend the grant funds if I’m awarded?
Grant recipients have 6 months from the date of award notification to spend their grant funds and submit a reimbursement request to Roanoke County for eligible capital expenses. Items purchased before or after this 6-month window will not be reimbursed.
Do I have to purchase the exact items listed in my grant application?
Yes. Approved purchases must generally match the capital items outlined in your application and approved by the Roanoke County Economic Development Authority (EDA). Major changes are not permitted, so please be sure your application accurately reflects your intended purchases.
Note: The BEAP Grant is a competitive, reimbursement-based program. Funds are distributed only after approved purchases are made and documentation is submitted. Purchases must be made after you are awarded the grant and within 6 months of the award date. Items purchased outside of this timeframe will not be eligible for reimbursement.
